TECHNICAL EDUCATION MAKE PROSPERITY – PART ONE

• There are flaws in our educational system.
• We blindly follow te west.
• Our system of education needs re-structuring.
• This should be need oriented.
• Technical Education is concerned with technology and maintenance of machinery.
• European countries were the first to introduce and stress on the need of technical education.
• The revolution in the field of science and technology demands technical hands to keep the machines running.
• The demand in foreign countries has raised the importance of technical education in Pakistan.
• It has come to stay and makes as hopeful about a brighter future.

We have no system of education of our own. It is a partly based on the western system of schooling. It has some advantages as well as disadvantages. However, there is a basic disadvantage in our educational system. We tend to educate students for useless knowledge. The simple education imparted in the schools and colleges does not help the students in making their careers in life or in earning a decent living. For example an arts graduate should be doing something related to art or literature. But unfortunately he is only able to work as a peon or an office assistant. His education does not help him get a decent job.

The educational system in the west has also become vocation based. It means that the students pass their basic schooling levels and then go on to complete a semi-skilled course of their choice in order to get a job in industry or business. Our educational system needs serious re-structuring for eliminating unemployment, poor knowledge levels and economic imbalances in society.

The state, the educational institutions and the students from all the disciplines should understand the need of the hour and should change the present educational system into a pragmatic, job oriented and specialized knowledge based system. We must plan our Technical Education System according to the needs of Pakistani people.
