Sixty feet above the moon, the blast of our single rocket churns up a gray tumult of lunar dust that seems to engulf us. Blinded, I feel the rest of the way down “on the gauges”. With an abrupt jar, our lunar module, or LM, strikes the surface and shudders to rest. We have hit our target squarely a large amphitheater girded by mountains and a deep canyon, at the eastern edge of a vast plain.

None of that stuff was expected from any of us in the little beginners class. We were only to jump, after brief but intense instruction, with Istel’s newly designed parachute, to show that any dope could do it. It was a parachute with a thirty-two-foot canopy; a large cutout hole funneled escaping air. You steered with two wooden knobs instead of having to pull hard on the back straps, or risers. The new parachute increased lateral speed, slowed down the rate of descent, reduced oscillation. We were told we could even land standing up but that we should bend our knees and lean to one side. The beginners jumped at eight a.m., the expert sky divers performed their dazzling tricks later when a crowd came.

It was usually men who asked me why I did it. Some were amused, others puzzled. I didn’t mind the jokes in the newspaper office where I worked about whether I left the building by window, roof or in the elevator. The truth is that I was an unlikely person to jump out of an airplane, being neither graceful, daring nor self-possessed, I had a bad back, uncertain ankles and could not drive with competence because of deficient depth perception and a fear of all buses coming toward me. This is the morning of reality, when we are ourselves. This is natural and real, the glimmering of a new creation that stirs in us and about us. We know there was winter, long, fearful. We know the earth was strangled and mortified, we know the body of life was torn and scattered broadcast.

All the time, whilst the earth lay chocked and killed and winter-mortified, the deep undersprings were quiet. They only wait for the ponderous encumbrance of the old order to give way, yield in the thaw, and there they are, a silver realm at once. Under the surge of ruin, unmitigated winter, lies the silver potentiality of all blossom. One day the black tide must spend itself and fade back. Then all-suddenly appears the crocus, hovering triumphant in the rear, and we know the order has changed, there is a new regime, sound of a new Vive! Vive! Vive!

In this short piece from the book, Robinson Crusoe tells us how he became shipwrecked.

Natural calamities can cause inflation. If the production of a country is affected by floods or famine etc. Its ultimately result is inflation and there will be an increase in price.

War is another important cause of inflation. The war always creates inflation in the economy of a country for example; Pakistan was making progress by leaps and bounds before indo-Pakistan war 1965. After that war the economy of Pakistan was badly affected and in 1971 indo-Pakistan war brought the worst setback for the people of Pakistan. As a result it found no other way except to devalue its currency to rebuild the economy. Then the flood in 1973 spread destruction in all over the Punjab and Sindh and took thousands of lives. Besides, the sharp increase in oil price proved as worst for the economy as the 1971 war. As a result of all this the prices increased sharply. The balance of payments came to the lowest limit. The currency was once again devalued and the result of it was rise in prices.
