Stroke - a leading problem - Brain Attack

STROKE - A LEADING PROBLEM - BRAIN ATTACK

STROKE A LEADING PROBLEM...

Every year approximately 250,000 people in Pakistan experience a stroke and about 70,000 die from it, making stroke one of the leading cause of death in Pakistan.

Stroke is also one of the leading cause of disability, permanently disabling a large number of them.

STROKE AS A BRAIN ATTACK...

The stroke programme at All Internation Hospital reflects a new way of thinking about stroke - as a brain attack, much like we think of heart attack.

Stroke occurs when a blood vessel leading to our inside the brain becomes blocked by blood clots or fatty tissues, or when weak spots in the vessel rupture.

Symptoms include numbness, weakness or paralysis of the face, arm or leg expecially on one side of the body, difficulty in speaking or understanding simple statement, sudden blurred or decreased vision in one or both eyes and loss of balance or coordination when combined with another symptom. Pain and loss of consciousness may occur in hemorrhagic stroke.

Brain damage increases the longer brain cells are deprived of oxygen. Chances for survival and successful rehabilitation improve the sooner medical treatment starts after symptoms appear.
