Oedipus Rex - Greek Drama Themes - Mythology

OEDIPUS REX - GREEK DRAMA THEMES - SOPHOCLES
GREEK DRAMA THEMES

MYTHOLOGY AND THE GOD...

Early Greek drama, both tragedy and comedy, drew from the stories of mythology and legend. These myths illuminated universal problems, ones that could pertain to situations plaguing fifth century Greece as well as to past events. The ancient Greeks believed that tragedy should deal with illustrious figures and significant events, thus the pantheon on God is ever-present and, often, omniscient. Aeschylus ‘plays, for instance, often centred on the justification of the God ways in relation to humankind or the comprehension of the form of justice meted out by the God.

Oedipus Re x- Greek Drama Themes - Strug & Rebell

OEDIPUS REX - GREEK DRAMA THEMES - SOPHOCLES
GREEK DRAMA THEMES

STRUGGLE AND REBELLION...

Greek tragedies all depicted struggles of some sort, most commonly between the state and individuals, between human law and natural law, or between human efforts and preordained fate. In many Greek tragedies, it is the person who rebels against the established order of things who becomes the hero or heroine. Sophocles’ Antigone depicts some of these struggles. Antigone defies her uncle Creon, the king of Thebes, when she performs burial rites for her brother.

Oedipus Rex - Greek Drama Themes - Tragedy

OEDIPUS REX - GREEK DRAMA THEMES - SOPHOCLES
GREEK DRAMA – THEMES

TRAGEDY...

The first forms of Greek drama were tragedies. “The theme of all tragedy is the sadness of life and the universality of evil,” wrote noted scholar Paul Roche in The Orestes Plays of Aeschylus. “The inference the Greeks drew from this was not that life was not worth living, but that because it was worth living the obstacles to it were worth overcoming.” Through suffering, the tragic hero is able to learn and grow. Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides were the great Greek tragedians, and they brought distinctive themes and perspectives to their works. Aeschylus transformed tragic drama into great literature.

Walking on the moon - Moon walker - part one

WALKING ON THE MOON – DAVID R. SCOTT – PART ONE

Sixty feet above the moon, the blast of our single rocket churns up a gray tumult of lunar dust that seems to engulf us. Blinded, I feel the rest of the way down “on the gauges”. With an abrupt jar, our lunar module, or LM, strikes the surface and shudders to rest. We have hit our target squarely a large amphitheater girded by mountains and a deep canyon, at the eastern edge of a vast plain.

Take the plunge - part two

TAKE THE PLUNGE – GLORIA EMERSON – PART TWO

None of that stuff was expected from any of us in the little beginners class. We were only to jump, after brief but intense instruction, with Istel’s newly designed parachute, to show that any dope could do it. It was a parachute with a thirty-two-foot canopy; a large cutout hole funneled escaping air. You steered with two wooden knobs instead of having to pull hard on the back straps, or risers. The new parachute increased lateral speed, slowed down the rate of descent, reduced oscillation. We were told we could even land standing up but that we should bend our knees and lean to one side. The beginners jumped at eight a.m., the expert sky divers performed their dazzling tricks later when a crowd came.

TAKE THE PLUNGE – GLORIA EMERSON – PART ONE

It was usually men who asked me why I did it. Some were amused, others puzzled. I didn’t mind the jokes in the newspaper office where I worked about whether I left the building by window, roof or in the elevator. The truth is that I was an unlikely person to jump out of an airplane, being neither graceful, daring nor self-possessed, I had a bad back, uncertain ankles and could not drive with competence because of deficient depth perception and a fear of all buses coming toward me. A friend joked that if I broke my bones I would have to be shot because I would never mend.

Whistling of Bird's - part three

WHISTLING OF BIRDS – PART THREE

Such a long, long winter, and the frost only broke yesterday. Yet it seems, already, we cannot remember it. It is strangely remote, like a far-off darkness. It is as unreal as a dream in the night. This is the morning of reality, when we are ourselves. This is natural and real, the glimmering of a new creation that stirs in us and about us. We know there was winter, long, fearful. We know the earth was strangled and mortified, we know the body of life was torn and scattered broadcast.

WHISTLING OF BIRDS – PART TWO

All the time, whilst the earth lay chocked and killed and winter-mortified, the deep undersprings were quiet. They only wait for the ponderous encumbrance of the old order to give way, yield in the thaw, and there they are, a silver realm at once. Under the surge of ruin, unmitigated winter, lies the silver potentiality of all blossom. One day the black tide must spend itself and fade back. Then all-suddenly appears the crocus, hovering triumphant in the rear, and we know the order has changed, there is a  new regime, sound of a new Vive! Vive! Vive!

WHISTLING OF BIRDS – D.H.LAWWRENCE

What is Charming Leisure fairyage

WHAT IS CHARMING LEISURE

LEISURE is a delightful and beautiful poem. The poet feels sorry at the preoccupation of man in daily pursuite of life. Man of the modern age does not have enough time to enjoy the beauty of natural objects of life lying around him. The poet says that we have no time to stand and stare at the charming sights and feel happy over them. In this regard, our lot is worse than animals. The cows and sheep have more time than we have to enjoy the beauty of a shady tree. Due to our preoccupation in life, we miss many happy and delightful sights.

The issue of too much currency “INFLATION”-part two

The issue of too much currency “INFLATION” – part two

Natural calamities can cause inflation. If the production of a country is affected by floods or famine etc. Its ultimately result is inflation and there will be an increase in price.

War is another important cause of inflation. The war always creates inflation in the economy of a country for example; Pakistan was making progress by leaps and bounds before indo-Pakistan war 1965. After that war the economy of Pakistan was badly affected and in 1971 indo-Pakistan war brought the worst setback for the people of Pakistan. As a result it found no other way except to devalue its currency to rebuild the economy. Then the flood in 1973 spread destruction in all over the Punjab and Sindh and took thousands of lives. Besides, the sharp increase in oil price proved as worst for the economy as the 1971 war. As a result of all this the prices increased sharply. The balance of payments came to the lowest limit. The currency was once again devalued and the result of it was rise in prices.

The Smart Generation's - fairyage

The other day I was reminded of how unperceptive I was as a child. Our lack of exposure to media and technology made us very naive compare to today's children as I discovered.

My four year old daughter was playing with her cousin who was having some difficulty with his train set. As the train refused to move on the track he asked why it had stopped. To this my daughter said, "the train can't go ahead because the halat are bad. they are burning buses and cars." I didn't know what  to say, I knew she had heard one of us adults discussing the situation or heard it on the news bulletin...it saddened me that he was exposed to such hate crime at such a young age; I expected that she would be immune and unaware of such events still she grows a little older.

For it obliges me to renounce my allegiance to the Darwinian theory of the Ascent of Man from the Lower Animals; since it now seems plain to me that that theory ought to be vacated in favor of a new and truer one, this new and truer one to be named the Descent of Man from the Higher Animals.

The nature of science - What science is - part three

THE NATURE OF SCIENCE - PART THREE
WHAT SCIENCE IS
Looked at in this light the ideas of science wear a new aspect. We find that the importance of a scientific idea depends, frequently enough, upon its value rather than on its truth. This applies, e.g., to the concept of the reality of an external world or to the idea of causality. With both the question is not whether they are true or false, but whether they are valuable or valueless.

THE NATURE OF SCIENCE - PART TWO
WHAT IS SCIENCE
Of course, we are so far from a single set of laws for all the sciences that we can scarcely go logically from physics to chemistry. We are closer to-though still far enough from-more limited ideas of the unity of science: unity on the basis of terms or of methods. There have been relatively successful attempts to create a common body of terms for the sciences, so that propositions of one science can be meaningful in others. And, despite great differences in the procedures and apparatus of the particular sciences, it is possible to approximate a statement of the most general methods of science so that they are applicable to all science.

The nature of science - What science is - part one

THE NATURE OF SCIENCE - PART ONE

Science is often defined inadequately as "an organized body of knowledge". This would make cookbooks, Sears, Roebuck catalogues, and telephone books science, which they are not. Sometimes science is defined simply as rationality, but that would make much of theology and metaphysics science, which they are not. Rationality is logical consistency, lack of contradiction. It is to be distinguished from reasonableness, the quality of a mind open to arguments and evidence opposed to its beliefs: a willingness to reconsider. Rationalists can be quite unreasonable or dogmatic. Rationalist meta physicians and theologians are often certain about premises which come from intuition or revelation. Even paranoiaces may be though of as rationalists, for they are commonly most rigorous in reasoning. But their premises, which they cling to in spite of all evidence, are absurd.

About the communication process

                                ABOUT THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

Today, communication enters our daily lives in so many different ways that it is very easy to overlook the multitude of its facets. The telephones at our hands, the radios and televisions in our living rooms, the computer terminals in our offices and homes, and our newspapers are all capable of providing rapid communications from every corner of the globe. Communication provides the senses for ships on the high seas, aircraft in flight, and rockets and satellites in space. Communication through a cordless telephone keeps a car driver in touch with the office or home miles away. Communication keeps a weather forecaster informed of conditions measured by a multitude of sensors. Indeed, the list of applications involving the use of communication in one way or another is almost endless.
In the most fundamental sense, communication involves implicitly the transmission of information from one point o another through a succession of processes, as described here:

We should always think before we speak because our words can heal and give comfort to a sad heart or they can break it. We should choose carefully our words before speaking.

The poet is of the view that a kind and sympathetic word spoken can bring comfort to a broken heart. A gesture or a tear shed in sympathy can also win us a sincere friend. At the same time a harsh word and a severe look has caused many hearts to wither away as the frest blooming flowers which die on being mishandled.

Otherwise they would have brightened our life's darkest periods. Hence a pleasant word and a pleasant look are not  ordinary things. They heal many hearts and save them from breaking.

The OSI reference model

                             IN THE OSI REFERENCE MODEL

In the OSI reference model, the communications and related-connection functions are organized as a series of LAYERS OR LEVELS with well-defined interfaces, and with each layer built on its predecessor. In particular, each layer performs a related subset of primitive functions, and it relies on the next lower layer to perform additional primitive functions. Moreover, each layer offers certain services to the next higher layer and shields the latter from the implementation details of those services. Between each pair of layers, there is an interface. It is the interface that defines the services offered by the lower layer to the upper layer.

Today, however, a few keystrokes on your computer produces that information almost instantaneously. Moreover, it will be precisely the information you want-which may be entirely different from the information one of your colleagues needs on a similar account.
